Chicago: The Deadliest Global City

By Suzanne Eovaldi, staff writer

Chicago has just received the worldwide distinction of being the “Deadliest Global City,” and I cried and cried.  Sitting down here in Florida’s mind numbing summer heat, I watched the Cubbie Bears lose another one, and in another game I watched Anthony Rizzo drive a homerun out over the ivy.  Tears just began to roll down my face.  Oh, I love that town, its beauty so mixed with its violence.  And I started back in time with the memories, oh, those memories. I loved walking down Michigan Avenue and feeling the soft lake breeze waft over me.  Sitting in a hospital room while visiting my Irish father in law, I remember looking out over the Mackinaw races on Lake Michigan, fondly called locally the Big Bathtub.  I remember as a young bride my husband taking me to hear the cool jazz he so loved at Mister Kelly’s and another club on the near north whose name I’ve forgotten.  I remember going down to an anti -protest movement in front of the Art Institute.

My colleague in the business department and his wife asked me to go with them as he was enraged the radicals walking all over the American Flag which was placed on the floor as part of an artist’s display inside the Museum.  I stood next to a Viet Nam vet in the cold, pouring rain, and when I looked down at his wheelchair I saw he had no legs, and he, too, was crying and was cold.

I remember the strength of an all- male leadership contingent led by Mayor Daley the son that pulled together when a barge hit pilings on the Chicago River, and the Loop started to flood.  By three that afternoon, the men had brought in a highly competent engineer and his team, and they had the situation handled, but the reporters raved about how cute he was, go figure.

I remember Mayor Daley the father issuing his famous “Shoot to Kill” order that stopped the hippie riots in that summer of 1968.  One of my students talked about being a fireman out on the fireboats.  They were called in and thrown into the utter chaos in Lincoln Park.  The Fire Chief pulled his men out of there, and who did they send in, the Chicago cops, of course.  The hippies filled brown bags with every body fluid they could squeeze out and were told to “hit the cops in the face.”  When an advisor said to Daley, “Mr. Mayor, we’re losing it,” Daley said, “They’re not going to kill my police,” and the rest is history.  His famous order hit the wires and within hours, the international media went blind nuts.

How could this have happened? “As measured in murders per 100,000 citizens, here is the list with worst (Chicago) listed first: Chicago 19.4;Sao Paulo 15.6; Moscow 9.6; Mexico City 8.0: Los Angeles 7.5;New York 6.0; Paris 4.4; Amsterdam 1.8;Toronto 1.7;London 1.4; Sydney 1.0; Berlin 1.0; Hong Kong 0.6; Tokyo 0.5 Singapore 0.4. (1)

Now during the same weekend that these horrific statistics came out, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s former chief of staff, was running his mouth about the chicken restaurant owner’s pronouncement that marriage rightly was between one man and one woman, and that’s the way it’s been for 6,000 years.

You really have to wonder about the liberal mind set.  Perhaps, the inability to rate priorities or the unwillingness to set aside progressive ideology is ruining the city I still love.  I just don’t know anymore.

  • Fraud and graft and deceit in the U.S. really got started in New York. They were perfected and brought to a new level in Chicago. I know, I was born there.I left when I found out where I was.

Additionally, Chicago is well on it’s way toward being named the murder capital of the world – yet another disctinction.

By the way, what some now call “community organizers” we used to call “bag men” and “ward heelers”. Funny how the vernacular has changed.

“Additionally, Chicago is well on it’s way toward being named the murder capital of the world – yet another disctinction”

I’m guessing you’re someone who isn’t familiar with murder rates for cities around the world? rofl.

Would you elaborate on the outlandish statement and the source that said that?

  • Jerry Todd

Ah, lincoln Park! As a boy in 1946, I entered the Soap box Derby. held at Lincoln Park. It was a safe and enjoyable place for all. I called the sponsoring Herald American because my buddy and I had just heard about it and wanted to know more. The next thing I knew the paper came out and took a picture of our rag tag car with illegal wheels that appeared on the front page. Next thing I knew we were on don elder’s Sports broadcast on WMAQ. The illegal wheels were resolved with some rapid help from some officials and my Dad who was working two jobs and knew little of our activities. I won the first heat, but succumbed to some streamlined beautifully built kid’s racer. Chicago carries many great memories for me. It is time we give our children a return to innocence and the joys of a free childhood. We let the politically correct “progressives” take away our innocence, now we need it back.

Yes, we heard the sad news here in AZ. The mayor of Chicago R. Emanuel heartfelt blat to the National News media how his city is now described as the murder cesspool of the the USA.
    So what did he expect?
One brave policeman said it clearly.
“The MX Cartel has moved in and taken over our city.”
    The facts are:
The MX cartels have taken over ~ , 180 American cities, but whose reporting that.

That’s what happend America when our own Govt refuses to give all Border States what they need for increased enforcement. That’s what happens when Bo, BO cancel the funding for our border fence. That’s what happens when the Federal Govt refuse to block the millions exchanged daily through banking.
That’s one of our hidden stimulas plans signed and sealed to el senor’s leadership gifted from the cartels.

Right now the Dept of HLS has handed down yet another directive for our law agencies to “stand down ” on enforcemnt and put added restrictions on all Fed Laws agencies based on this issue. By doing this, they have also put added targets on our Fed agencies backs.
To the rest of America, learn how to safely shoot a gun.
Enforce E-Verify in your state and boycott all Buss that hire illegal workers.
Boycott all MX eateries and markets.
Push for charter school education where the student base is small and acceptance is selective.
Support your law agencies and report through your police hot lines , all areas that are infestated with drugsanhd other illegal activity.

We can’t do this along America.
Your Govt has turned it’s back on us: and we refuse to see our courty trashed based on all lawlessness and trashing our Federal Laws from our oun leadeship.
Help us take back and rebuild America.
Obama and his Czars are destroyer and we are living proof of it here in AZ.

Vote out the destroyers in Novemeber.

Suzanne…some memories are very dear and precious…and I would never presume to denigrate your memories of Chicago; but for myself, I cannot imagine a single positive, pleasant thought about a city awash in corruption for so many generations that the Chicago method of ‘problem-solving’ has become legendary and synonymous with dirty-tricks and political assassinations.
Rahm and Chicago deserve one another.

  • Mr Right

Hi Suzanne, I would say it’s just some guys’ opinion on a blog (no offense). There’s nothing official about the list certainly.

I fear for G Mann who made some truly bizarre assertions. Chicago isn’t and never will be the murder capital of the world. It isn’t remotely approaching it, so where on earth people have gotten that from I really don’t know. It’s far from the worst city even in the US – think New Orleans (easily worse) – and that’s nowhere near being murder capital of the world either.

Chicago doesn’t have a terribly high murder rate (including this year). Rio de Janeiro has 7, possibly 8 times as many murders. I bet a lot of Americans didn’t know that huh? Juarez in Mexico has 6 times as many murders etc. These are the cities people are going around saying Chicago’s worse than, it’s embarrassing.

These cities and their numbers are very Google-able and are well known to be worse, open your minds and don’t get swallowed by the Chicago hype machine.

    Cheers.

Not surprisingly, leftist Dem Illinois Governor Quinn has just demanded the state legislature institute an assault weapons ban statewide! And Chicago is beginning work on its 3rd or fourth attempt to re-write clearly unconstitutional, gun-grabbing legislation for the city, having failed on each previous try since the Supreme Court ruling which threw out the city’s longstanding assault on the 2nd Amendment back in 2010.
Nothing frightens the left like guns in the hands of honest Americans. Far too great a threat to those working to impose the Marxist agenda, after all.
Pity, isn’t it Mayor Rahm! Were it not for that damned 2nd Amendment you and your friends might have been able to steal ALL of Chicago by now!

I do believe that if I was asked to select a city in the USA most deserving of a ‘public cleansing’ (an enema). I would first choose Chicago.
