Democrats, get used to hearing Schadenfreude: it means deriving pleasure from the misery of others

 By Kevin “Coach” Collins

Make mo mistake, the Sane Congressional Democrat Caucus (SCDC) knew it would come to this as far back as December 2008 even before all the trash from Obama’s election parties was cleaned up. Maryland Democrat Congressman Chris Van Hollen, the de facto chairman of the SCDC, said his Party could lose as many as 70 to 80 seats in this cycle on the same day Barack Obama would bask in the glow of happy Democrat faces oblivious to the coming disaster.

The SCDC knew Obama’s support was a mile wide and an inch deep even when the polls were reporting Obama holding a 70% approval rating and the GOP trailing by 25 points on the economy and 34 points on health care.

Van Hollen and his staff knew 2010 would find Democrats defending 54 seats that they took during the last two cycles, 48 seats where the hapless John McCain actually won and a massive 83 districts held by them that voted for George Bush in 2004.

 1994 or 1894?

The SCDC chairman was determined not to have a repeat of 1994’s Democrat wipeout happen on his watch. He may well get his wish, but not in the way he wants things to turnout. In 1994 the GOP picked up 53 Democrat seats which was of course a stunning defeat.  Nevertheless, now it looks like 1894 when Republicans rode disgust with Grover Cleveland to a smashing 119 seat pick up victory.

 Threats over money

The SCDC plan called for 41 “Frontline Democrats” to raise more and more money to insure their own reelection. They were required to amass enough money to be up on local TV all during the final six to eight weeks of this cycle. Their problem now seems to be that they are all dressed up with no place to go. It’s one thing to have the money for weeks of TV spots, but it is a much different situation if you have nothing compelling to say. The Democrat incumbent in my district (NY 13), has not been able to do better than calling our never before politically involved candidate a “career politician.” All the money in the world still won’t give desperate Democrats anything to run on.

Democrats had better get used to the word Schadenfreude: it means deriving pleasure from the misery of others. I believe they will hear it a lot.

Stand up and fight for your freedom or watch the Democrats take it away.

  1. Great minds think alike! Just yesterday I thought the time was right for "Schadenfreude."

Seeing that peace has not yet descended upon the planet, nor any change made to the ocean levels since his inauguration in January 2009, but that more liberty has been confiscated and trillions of dollars stolen from living and not-yet-living citizens, we have every right to exhibit Schadenfreude, and especially on November third. The Left was no less gleeful on November 5, 2008, which marked the first day toward their downfall.

  2. I have to say that for the past few of hours i have been hooked by the amazing posts on this site. Keep up the wonderful work.
