Documents obtained as the result of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit prove Janet Napolitano’s Department of Homeland Security has invented a fantastic cover story for its agenda of spying on Americans who are unwilling to relinquish their rights and liberty to the Obama Regime.
In April of 2011, the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) filed a Freedom of Information Act request seeking from the DHS all records pertaining to the Department’s “Media Monitoring Initiative.”
Begun 2 years ago, DHS claimed the purpose of the Initiative was “…to assist DHS and its components involved in the security, safety, and border control associated with the 2010 Winter Olympics as well as the response, recovery, and rebuilding effort resulting from the earthquake and after-effects in Haiti.” (1)
And how did Homeland Security intend to accomplish this noble, dual purpose of controlling the border and assisting in Haiti? Naturally, by “… [monitoring] publicly available online forums, blogs, public websites, and message boards to collect information used in providing situational awareness and establishing a common operating picture.” (1)
The Homeland Security Act, passed by Congress after the 9/11 attacks, mandates Department action on the bureaucratic jibber-jabber quoted above in order to make certain that “…critical disaster-related information reaches government decision makers.” (2)
Well given the histories of Barack Obama and Janet Napolitano, the people at EPIC smelled a rat. And rightly so, for upon filing a lawsuit in December of 2011–after Homeland Security had ignored the Center’s original FOIA requests–EPIC was provided some 285 pages of documents by Napolitano’s Department. And portions of those documents paint a picture of federal overreach and intrusion into the lives of the American people extraordinary even by Obama Regime standards.
For the initial documents obtained by EPIC in January made it clear the Media Monitoring program had been created for little more than spying on the American people.
In 2010, DHS hired General Dynamics to monitor the news for “… [media] reports that reflect adversely on the US Government, DHS, or prevent, protect, respond government activities.” In fact, Napolitano’s DHS provided the company with instructions to look for and keep a record of anything people were saying about the Department or its policies. (3)
And General Dynamics did just that when it provided Homeland Security with a report on what people were saying on Facebook, Twitter, various blogs and in the comment section of the New York Times concerning the Obama Regime’s plans to bring Gitmo terrorists to a prison in Standish, Michigan!
Incredibly, Homeland Security said it would monitor Twitter and Facebook by creating fictitious usernames and scanning user posts for key terms, the information and user data gleaned to be stored for a period of 5 years and shared with other government agencies! (4)
Needless to say, none of this seems to have had much to do with the Haiti earthquake or potential trouble on the Northern border as a result of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
So Barack Hussein Obama is using the federal government of the United States as his personal, political listening device, looking for and keeping records on signs of dissent and unrest spawned by troublemakers unhappy with the authoritarian rule of his DC junta of “hope and change.” Criticize the DHS, speak out against the White House or Department of Justice on Facebook, Twitter or countless other public forums and your comments and personal information will be passed on to the federal government where they will be stored for the purpose of…WHAT?
Funny that Janet Napolitano’s minions had to invent a thoroughly fraudulent picture of what her Department was doing and why it was being done. But then why should the Regime break a pattern of dishonest behavior which has worked so well for Democrat Administrations for so long!
