“High Tech-High Touch” was defined in John Naisbitt’s “Megatrends” in 1982. It defines two sides of human progress – technology and attention to beauty. I look for threesomes in human discourse. Add the broad field of High Finance. High Tech; High Touch; High Finance.
The importance placed in the order of priority of the three determines the quality and strength of society itself. The love of and speculation on money is now first before its primary servant role as the medium of exchange, growth of high-tech and high-touch is limited to the desires of the despot. Those dreamers and entrepreneurs who make it happen technologically and artistically suffer while the speculator and the despot bask in their deadly two-class totalitarian mindset. The whole diverse range of human talent and endeavor, from technology to artistry to spirituality, a growing understanding and intuitive feeling about life will show that high-tech and high-touch.
This leads to full, meaningful employment at the maximum level of available individual and communal skill potential – not just “jobs.” It takes willingly applied wealth and assets of pure investment capitalism to solidify and broaden human progress, not government entitlements or the mandates of the usurer. A society that is balanced in its secular and spiritual outlook will prosper.
It will utilize all the talent, skills and resources available to it, and might even be in the will of God. There must be a balance, and it must be monitored and maintained constantly. The American Declaration/Constitutional model is the historically proven ideal. A high quality building development or convenience requires more creative design; imaginative use of materials and location; spiritually uplifting beauty and a higher level of maintenance. These in total demand the broadest range of skills from the designer, artist, builder, supplier and ultimately the workers who keep it clean, polished and running smoothly (with pride).
Russia under the czars produced great beauty and art – which had to require great designers and artisans. Under the Soviets, the same country degenerated to shoddy construction and ugliness. I see our national energy-drained and our wealth now paying for magnificent buildings like the world’s tallest in Dubai, the Burj Kaliph.
Dubai has become one of Boeing’s biggest customers for the new Dreamliner. Our buildings and infrastructure are fading, aging and not really being renewed. Prioritize high-touch and high-tech ahead of high financial manipulation and we will be able to restore and maintain our great nation. Those of wealth will be like the rising tide that lifts all boats. If they are “poor in spirit” love God and fellow man they will amass more than a warehouse full of “gold.”
As more gain wealth, they too help the helpless and help others create and build.

You misunderstand "high touch", I think. My father was a "high touch" stockbroker in the post war era. He built his rep on leadersip, integrity, and networking.
The so-called reforms of the impersonal "meritocracy" crowd brought America to its knees by the strong arm tactics of the criminal underground. Their methods of extortion, intimidation and politics of personal destruction are the antithesis of the high touch Naisbet predicted.
He promised custom services replacing the one size fits all mentality of the Newtonian clockwork mindset. The reactionaries who colluded to pass Obamacare stepped right in the way of that as their lucrative professions are challenged by very cheap custom medicine based on genetic counselling and stem cell therapies. They cost next to nothing compared to hip and knee replacements. We want high touch personal attention to individuals but we are getting the interchangeable parts ideas of the machine era reinforced.
Thanks ClaireSolt! I might not have written as clearly as I could have. Your father is exactly the kind of man who used his profession to produce "high touch" – followed I'm sure by high tech, His use of high finance had to be profitable, but it also served its proper role.
This brings to mind the perversions of how diversity is defined in the totalitarian mindset. True diversity is the infinite range of gifts and talents we are endowed with by God. The American Dream happened because anyone could rise above his "station" and achieve greatness with his and others' gifts or fail and try again. Diversity by race, ethnicity and sexual preference plays right into that "Newtonian clockwork" (Love that term!) Thanks again. I'm not sure I understand the last sentence.
It is time to stop pretending that tolerance and Marquis of Queensbury rules don't just enable and cover up corruption and criminality. We need tough minded, clear thinking leaders who will call out the bad guys and prosecute them. That's high touch too. Moral equivalence and relativism must be challenged.
