America’s Catholics were once among the Democrats’ largest voting blocs. This year that advantage is gone as Catholics are poised to turn against them.
In May when Pope Benedict assigned Bishop William E. Lori to be the new spiritual leader of the Diocese of Baltimore, America’s oldest diocese, he was sending a message directly to Barack Obama and his Democrats – especially elected Catholic Democrats.
Bishop Lori chairs the U.S. Conference of Bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee For Religious Liberty, which was formed specifically by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the organization’s head, to oppose Gay marriage and combat Obamacare’s mandates aimed at forcing Catholic employers to include contraception and abortion in their workers’ healthcare packages.
Upon being named to his new post, Bishop Lori said he planned to confront Maryland’s putatively Catholic Governor Martin O’Malley about his support for Gay “marriage.”
“The church has clearly and consistently taught the greatness of marriage between one man and one woman. Certainly, I will continue that teaching as a bishop and will be working on this issue as the referendum unfolds,” Lori said at the time.
This past week, speaking to the national convention of the Knights of Columbus, America’s leading Catholic layman’s organization, Bishop Lori could not have been clearer when he said, “This is a big moment for Catholic voters to step back from their party affiliation.”
Speaking directly to Catholic voters the Bishop advises, “The question to ask is this: Are any of the candidates of either party, or independents, standing for something that is intrinsically evil, evil no matter what the circumstances? If that’s the case, a Catholic, regardless of his party affiliation, shouldn’t be voting for such a person.”
In coordination with this opening shot across the Democrats’ bow, the Vatican has commented on the erosion of religious freedoms in America as being a serious threat of “unprecedented gravity” to the Catholic Church’s “liberty and public moral witness.”
This message needs to be carefully considered. It is a huge departure from the positions taking by the Vatican on American politics – ever before. Never has a Pope been as blunt in his language as he warned his people about the dangers facing his American Catholic brothers and sisters.
The election of Cardinal Dolan to lead the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, Bishop Lori’s appoint to lead the diocese in Obama’s backyard, the several other key appointments the Vatican has made in the structure of America’s Catholic hierarchy – these thing did not “just happen.” Those who would believe they were haphazard and coincidental do so at their own political peril.

Coach, over and over again you go to the theme that somehow the (True) Catholics are going to save us by being the force that spurs an Obama defeat. I want Obama defeated, but you are deluded if you think some Church politics is going to matter one whit or that thew position the body corporate of the Holy Church matters to anyone except themselves. The days are past when this mattered on any scale at all.
Go ahead. Call me names. I am a Catholic, too.
Coach I believe you are right to a certain extent. When it comes to traditional catholics. There is a divide in the church. Among the more liberal and the more conservative members. Honestly we are at war from within. Many think the church needs to accept the modern secular view of marriage being for everyone. As a conservative catholic the liberals better be ready for a fight. Finally Obama has crossed the line. That no other president has. Limiting religious freedom.

These attacks by the Left on Religious Freedoms in America are based on distortions of the true meaning of the separation of Church and State which is not in the Constitution but can be found in a letter from Jefferson to his nephew. The Constitution does say that there shall be NO encroachment by the government on religion. Obama, through Obama care is encroaching on a key belief of Catholics’ and many other Denominations’ that life is sacred. Obama must not be allowed to fly free and loose with the Constitution and our Rights any more.
The Constitution has served this Country well for over two hundred years and with its system of Capitalism and Free Enterprise has made America the greatest Country history has ever witnessed.
America is the envy of all other Countries as proven by the hope it offers to immigrants to find a betterment of their lives and fortunes.
Obama believes he has a better way as taught to him by his radical family, teachers and associates. He is a Socialist, a a Marxist, a “progressive”, a believer in a One World Government with his loyalty pledged to the UN rather than to the USA.
No one gave him the right to undo the greatness of what was bequeathed to us by our Founding Fathers. All Presidents are elected to PRESIDE over the good of the Country, to protect our freedoms and individual Rights and to UPHOLD, PROTECT and DEFEND the Constitution, not hold it in contempt! He was not crowned King to do as he pleases with the fortunes of this great Land. He has acted as a despotic Dictator, while cowards in government, who are charged to act as a “check” on his actions. have cravenly decided to ignore the people’s welfare to preserve their cushy and lucrative positions.
The Catholic Church is now at the forefront in finally resisting Obama’s heavy boot and acts for all when it acts for Freedom. Besides the Catholic Dogma is not determined by its members. It is what it is. Take it or leave it, but it is not subject to a vote by its members.
Religion and Socialism are enemies. Religion is the first thing despots seek to stamp out so as to have no moral opposition or loyalty to anything other than the State.
Not only is America’s future at stake, but so are We The People!
Vote against Obama; vote for Romney. That is our only true American choice. You don’t have to like Romney. You only need to appreciate that Obama is a charismatically bad bad man!
The Catholic Church must stand tall against the robber of religious freedom. Otherwise, the Church will be exposed as just another huge business using its’ standing as a religion to avoid paying taxes.
As for the laity, they will vote and do as they please. A plurality of Catholics have done so since the 1960′s.
America collectively shakes its’ head in disgust and disbelief at human rights abuses taking place world wide….for example, the women and children living in Sharia-Muslim controlled nations are singled-out for near “Sainthood” for having to abide the oppressive conditions set forth for them by their male rulers and captors; etc., etc., etc…. the examples of world-wide human indecency and savagery toward their fellow human souls are legion, and spread across this globe like a massive killing virus….and yet…we cannot seem, as a nation, to muster that SAME sense of moral outrage, care for, and support of the Christian tenets and practices which were the very BASIS for the founding of our nation (which I suppose may include Catholicism).
Where is the indignance to the Human Rights violations taking place here within America’s borders ? Where is the rage against injustices against fellow Americans through religious and political trumped-up treachery and outright lies… isolation and intimidation ?
Moral relativism has become just another Marxist/Socialist scrap of the red fabric of anti-American dogma…and I do not much care WHO is responsible for dismantling it entirely. but it must be done….it could be the Catholics who bring it down in a hail of papal encyclicals and admonishments for the still faithful.
But how much stronger a movement it would be, for ALL of us, of ALL religious disciplines, fed-up with the lack of soul, the constantly equivocating and nit-picking haranguing of ‘believers’, the anti-human-nature of “The State is All”, the force feeding and indoctrination of ALIEN dogmas (and intolerable Sharia Law), in the lame and false name of world tolerance….to pull a nation-wide “we support Chick-Fil-A” demonstration at our November polling places !
Force the RINOs, Progressives, Marxists, Atheists and other self-righteous, every-day-people-power rights usurping Associations like the ACLU that we are done with them….and that we want a return to “the milk of Human Kindness”
I do NOT want America to be “Euro-centric”, Muslim-biased, Pan-African….I just want my damn country back…as it WAS…not as it is now dis-constructed.
