Media interest in Republicans’ religious beliefs is only a way to mock and damage them

By Kevin “Coach” Collins

A new report from the Media Research Center (MRC) focusing on the type of questions  the media asks  Republicans underscores the deep bias reporters have against religious people.

A Republican candidate has been asked by reporters if God told her to run for president. Other reporters have questioned whether another candidate’s having led a prayer rally was constitutional.

Still other reporters, feigning genuine curiosity, have asked another Republican candidate about statements against Mormonism made by a pastor whose church he attended.

Nevertheless, if you’ve heard of a reporter asking any of the Congressional Black Caucus members who have converted to Islam about  their views of the sections of the Koran  calling for the murder of Christians and Jews, that puts you one up on the rest of us.

When, if ever, have we heard a reporter asking putative Catholic Joe Biden why he is not allowed to receive Holy Communion in his home diocese or a few others around the country; or how Catholic Democrats like Chris Dodd and Bill Richardson reconcile their extreme support for abortion with their Church’s teaching against it?

The CMR report shows that Mormons Mitt Romney and John Huntsman have been challenged about their religious beliefs 13 times more than Democrats have been questioned about their faiths.  Yet statements about close adherence to religious principle by Democrats are accepted as fact without being challenged.

Let a pastor or individual church a Republican has even a passing acquaintanceship with say ANYTHING the media doesn’t like and that person will be pilloried until he or she explains it. That Barack Obama sat and listened to an anti American skunk like Jeremiah Wright babble and spew his hatred for twenty years was never brought up except by the new media during the last election cycle. Clearly there is no reason to think the mainstream media will bring it up this time either.

Because they are soooo much more enlightened than we are it is not a stretch to believe there are more atheists in the media. These people might want to keep the results of a newly released study on attitudes toward atheists. We rate them about as low as rapists and believe they are amoral untrustworthy people.

"That Barack Obama sat and listened to an anti American skunk like Jeremiah Wright babble and spew his hatred for twenty years was never brought up except by the new media during the last election cycle."

In fact, it was covered extensively, in all the major media, from CNN to NYT to ABC. But don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant.
