Racial warfare: Would “people of color” shakedown other “people of color”?

 By Kevin “Coach” Collins

Move over Jimmy Hoffa and Richard “Fifth Amendment” Trumpka union racketeering has just gone Affirmative Action. The Hispanics have staked their claim to shakedown economics in the construction industry and added a twist of racial warfare for flavor.

The United Hispanic Construction Workers (UHCW), a criminal cartel that has long masqueraded as a labor union, has once again been charged with engaging in its favorite crimes: labor racketeering and extortion.

The UHCW first came to the attention of the New York Police almost 20 years ago.  In 1993 when they were just learning the extortion “trade”, they settled for relative peanuts. An indictment filed then charged five UHCW conspirators with squeezing a mere $8,000 and a one time additional payment of $1,000 from a victimized Brooklyn construction company.

In 2008 David Rodriguez, UHCW president, who was indicted, but not convicted in the 1993 case,  was indignant at the suggestion that his group was once again involved in shakedown economics. Maybe it was the paltry $15.00 an hour no-show job involved in a Manhattan DA’s investigation that insulted Rodriguez and maybe he really WAS out of the extortion business, but he and the UHCW seem to back to extorting White construction company owners at a new “inflation adjusted” rate.

Last Monday Rodriguez and his chief Capo were indicted for “selling” protection, “good will” “Labor peace” and “security” for prices ranging from $1,000 a month to $400 and $100 a week.

UHCW’s lawyer’s spin: crime? What crime?

When Rodriguez and his henchman Darryl Jennings (there’s that Affirmative Action thing again) were indicted,  their lawyer Murray Richman immediately played the race card saying, “If white guys do it, they call it a union, [but] if people of color do it, they call it a crime.”

The ADA handling the investigation said Jennings was extorting ten different construction firms at the same time. He added that Rodriguez, who spent a year in prison during the mid seventies for grand larceny, realized “substantial gains” from the scheme. Published reports describe the victims as being so frightened by the UHBW thugs that they denied the shakedowns had taken place until confronted by taped phone conversations between them and Jennings.

Given the overwhelming likelihood that the victimized companies are owned by White entrepreneurs, UHCW’s crimes were not only clearly extortions but hate crimes as well.

In 2008 Rodriguez dismissed any criminality in his tactics saying, Once in a while, we run across some contractor who thinks they’re back in the ’60s, who says, ‘We’re not going to take anyone we don’t need. You can’t make us. We’re not afraid of you. “I’ve got to explain, ‘No, that’s not what it’s about.’’

I wonder if Eric Holder will get the DOJ involved? These thugs aren't exactly "his people", but they do vote Democrat, so it seems they should at least be entitled to a "we're not going to press charges" decision!
