What a disgrace to learn from statistics just released by the Department of Education that “…only 7 percent of the eighth graders in Detroit are grade-level proficient or better in reading.” And statistics show that “Detroit public-school eighth graders do even worse in math than they do in reading. Only 4 percent SCORED HIGHLY ENOUGH to be rated proficient or better in math. “State figures reveal [just] over 30 percent of public-school eighth graders were proficient or better in reading or math. “Sixty eight percent of Michigan public-school eighth graders are not proficient in reading and 69% are not proficient in math.” (3) And little to no progress has been made during the last 12 years. (1)

In November, Michigan voters roundly defeated ballot Proposal 2, a union-sponsored measure “…which would have amended the state constitution to guarantee collective bargaining rights to public and private-sector employees.” (1) For the first 2 years of his term, Governor Rick Snyder had consistently advised Michigan organized labor to keep such a proposal off the ballot. “My concern is that [the proposal] could start a whole divisive atmosphere of other people trying to put right-to-work on the ballot,” explained Snyder. (1)
Of course those “other people” so feared by the timid governor were fellow Republicans in the Michigan legislature!
In point of fact, Snyder cared no more about unions attaining greater power than the prospect of a future Republican attempt to thwart it. A Michigan police department has made it clear that freedom of speech and the Constitutional right to peaceably assemble may only be enjoyed upon approval by the terror-promoting, Islamic group CAIR.
On January 26th, Michigan State Representative David Agema and others hosted an event entitled “Constituting Michigan—Founding Principles Act” in the Allegan High School auditorium. The purpose of the event was “…to inform the public about the importance of honoring the United States Constitution, to recognize the internal threat to America posed by radical Muslims and the dangers to our free society caused by the imposition of Sharia law.” (1)
