I see three trends, each with a different time table. The first is the short term political environment that culminates on November 2, 2010. The second is a medium-term time frame of 4 to 6 years and involves the trend against political incumbents at all levels; local to national. The third is a 20+ year trend and is not specifically political; rather, it is fundamental and pertains to how we relate (or don’t relate) to our traditional values.
Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally was about the third trend. However, for reasons I outline below, there are many who claim it has to do with short and medium term political trends.
An analogy may help. Say you live on a few wooded acres and a storm comes (The storm represents the problems we face). The storm lasts for 10 minutes and it gets stronger as each minute passes. In the first minute, you lose one tree. The storm strengthens and in the second minute you lose two trees. Four trees in the third minute, eight in the fourth and so on.
Note a couple of things
You lose 31 trees in the first five minutes (1 + 2 + 4 + 8 +16 =31). “Doesn’t seem too bad”, you think after five minutes, “I may lose 62 trees all together if it lasts another five minutes” you conclude. You see, that is how we humans think. You would be very surprised when the storm was over and you had lost over 1,000 trees. Because you expected another 31 trees down, 1,000 would be confusing and terrifying.
Note of all the damage done; only 3% occurred during the first half of the storm. The vast majority occurred in the second half. Half way through a problem is not a good time to judge its severity, but it is when we need to start solving it.
Glenn is addressing a “10 minute storm” at the five minute mark. “Only 31 trees down, so far so good. It doesn’t look so bad. What’s all the fuss?” most are asking.
But Beck sees the 1,000 trees coming down. Most people don’t see it so they are misidentifying the problem he is addressing. They see the Tea Party and the 2010 election and think that the problem is in the “9th minute” of a smaller very visible storm.
The larger storm Glenn is addressing is our falling away from our founding principles and from God. The second half of the storm, which we are now entering, is much, much worse than the first and now is the time to start addressing it. That is what “Restoring Honor” was about and why it is so important to act on it now.
The storm Glenn is warning about is not the only one. It is happening everywhere: economics, politics, terrorism, culture, health care, environment, immigration. My father is writing about all of it. He has published a book online at http://29thday.org/ titled The 29th Day: Solutions in a World of Accelerating Change. He has made it available for free. His goal is to help people understand the changes we are witnessing and what we can do about it. Please stop by and get your free copy.
Tomorrow we will be gathering in our capital to make our voices heard. Be there if you can, or gather in your town square to let the Marxists infecting our way of life know we are coming to take our country back.
This day in history September 1o
1945: Vidkun Quisling was sentenced to death in Norway for collaborating with the Nazis. He was executed by firing squad in October 1945.
The danger to our country is real, but one voice speaking the truth can change history. Prepare to fight for your freedoms or prepare to be a slave.
What did you do to support and defend American freedoms yesterday? What will you do today and tomorrow?
