When Eric Holder ordered Justice Department Inspector General Cynthia Schnedar to begin an investigation of possible wrongdoing in Operation Fast and Furious it was with just one purpose in mind—enable the Attorney General and other DOJ officials to refuse to answer questions or provide documentation concerning the “gunwalking” debacle because there is an “ongoing investigation.” It’s a neat little legal trick the Obama Regime has pulled on more than one occasion.
But although Holder used this dodge of his own creation to keep congressional committee members at bay for nearly a year, it appears the OIG report is just about ready to make its long overdue appearance. For Holder and his DOJ minions have telegraphed the fact that they might already have, to put it discreetly, “been privy” to information contained in the document.
And the reason this is a safe bet is that “…three of the prime Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms players in the Fast and Furious gunwalking scandal have been relieved of their duties.” (1)
Two of the three, William Hoover, former Deputy Director of the ATF and Mark Chait, former Assistant Director of Field Operations had already been shuffled into new positions some months ago. William McMahon, former Deputy Assistant Director of Field Operations had not been part of that occupational shell game, but now joins Chait and Hoover on the sidelines, probably awaiting the final publication of the report which will publically determine their ultimate fate.
That Holder was no doubt given advance notice of Schnedar’s findings is highly unethical, but certainly not surprising. The two have been friends and work-mates for many years and are, of course, fellow leftists.
The real questions involve what will happen now! Will the OIG report come out immediately prior to Eric Holder’s February 2nd appearance before the Issa, House committee? The timing would allow Holder to dazzle committee members with the honesty and efficiency of the DOJ, having dismissed 3 individuals who JUST HAPPENED to be mentioned by the Inspector General as bad eggs!
Does Holder hope that his “the ATF is responsible, not we really IMPORTANT people at DOJ” pump priming which media and Department of Justice minions have done over the past months will be enough to convince Republican committee members that the ATF firings over Fast and Furious should suffice, making no further investigation into DOJ misdeeds really necessary?
And most importantly, will Republicans FALL for such drivel, or more to the point, consider it the most politically expedient course?
After all, only a few hundred people wound up dead as a result of Fast and Furious “walked” weapons. And only 2 American agents, neither really a big name! And besides, Eric Holder is telling everyone that Republican committee members are racists for “persecuting” him! And it is, after all, an election year!
Republicans don’t seem to be making much of an issue of Obama’s utter disregard for the Constitution with his illegal “recess” appointments, do they! Much easier and safer to just sit back and TAKE IT, isn’t it Senator McConnell?
So will these pillars of political courage let Holder, Obama and the entire DOJ off the Fast and Furious hook, allowing them to get away with murder in the same way they permitted the acting president to make an unconstitutional appointment? We might know in a couple of weeks.

Bessie,
Thank you for this link! The story of a deal with the Sineloa cartel appeared last year and stretches back to the Bush administration. But the news of Holder having filed to keep all of the court records secreted away from the public is new info, at least to me and great to have!
Thanks for reading and contributing to Coach is Right.
Doug
McMahon was part of the shuffle too. He was moved in house to the office of professional responsibility where he was in a possition to be involved in IA investigations.
Kathryn,
That is great information. Thanks much. And as I understand it, from postings on the CleanUp ATF site, IA at the ATF has become an outfit used more for intimidation and threat than actually seeking out improper/illegal behavior.
Doug, I have been entirely "under-whelmed" by Congressional Republicans since the Bush Administration, and matters have only grown worse with the advent of "The One".
Political expediency; gamesmanship between the House and Senate; public kow-towing and salaaming to "The-Thief-in-the-WH" ; allowing Obama to unconstitutionally MAKE policy without the specific consent of Congress; Congressional passage of laws which adversely impact the Freedoms and rights of the American people ; the Senate's failure to pass a constitutionally mandated budget since Obama took office; Caving in to the Obama administration on deficit reduction and balanced budgets repeatedly ; Congressional granting of powers to Obama which are an over-reach of the limits of both his office and that of Congress itself, according to the Constitution ; Refusal to get rid of Eric Holder and the balance of Obama's Czars ; Congress allowing Obama to make illegal recess appointments without so much as a collective roar of disapproval……the litany of Congressional Republicans' spinelessness, errors, blatant disregard for the will of the people, and intentional acts of enslavement gives me absolutely ZERO confidence that they will suddenly and magically clean up their dirty tricks to do what is right by the Rule of Law in this Country.
Eric Holder absolutely MUST go…but I don't think Congress has the fortitude it would take for an all-out assault on Obama's main man.
Jo,
I hate to have to agree with you on this one but everything Republicans have–or rather HAVEN'T–done over the past year especially makes it look as though you're right. Can anyone imagine Democrats letting Bush get away with an unconstitutional "recess" appointment? Scooter Libby was assaulted for having done NOTHING wrong or remotely illegal. Holder LIES under oath and nothing is said or done except on an internet over which our politicians now want greater control!
I'll be interested to see what Holder's Feb 2nd appearance adds up to.
Hey Puppy!
I would love to be SO TOTALLY WRONG in my assessment of Congress, but their track-record to date leaves little doubt that THEY, like Obama's policies in the Mid-East , can only politely be referred to as "Appeasement Politics". IMPOLITELY, they can be termed with many unprintable adjectives….but we won't "go there".
It would enormously elate, enliven, and relieve the whole Country (except the Obama idolators, of course), to witness a legitimate and long over-due display of Congressional fury and precise action against the President who has usurped so much of THEIR power, as well as that of the citizenry.
Like an Obama/Gingrich debate…I would pay good money to see Congressional wrath and ingenuity finally leveled against Obama.
This is what Patriots all across America have been wanting "from the get-go".
Why Congress has refused "to deliver the goods" of a sound thrashing is beyond my ken….I can only infer, as I've said before, that there is not a SPINE to be found under the Capital Building Dome.
Yes, we can hope for the best from our elected officials inside the Beltway; but as my brother says, "If you put Hope in ONE hand, and horses*** in the other……which do you think will draw flies faster?"
No question that we all know the answer to that question…..what we DON'T know is why Americans have had to put up with the Horses*** of BOTH Obama and our Congress!
Here's a "heads up" to all CiR readers: If you will take the time to go to :www.dickmorris.com you will find two petitions to sign.
1. Protecting Internet liberty from the reach of Congress, and…
2. A petition asking for the restoration of the Keystone Pipeline.
Please get up off your apathy and sign !
Dick Morris has turned out to be a very good friend to The TEA Party movement and his petitions reach the proper eyes and ears in Congress.

Does not work. It says: 403 Forbidden when you try to go to the site.
I have tried it and found that it does work. Sometimes, especially on weekends ,sites do maintenance and you get error messages.
Thanks for reading CiR and thanks for reporting this so I could explain it.
