Your mission: Capture bin Laden. Just kill him first!

By Doug Book, staff writer

The flood of conflicting “official” stories detailing the death of Osama bin Laden has become almost farcical. But perhaps we’re not being told what DID happen in Abbottabad because no one at the White House wishes to admit what was SUPPOSED to happen. That is, divulge the real objective.

After the discovery of bin Laden’s hiding place, “…Obama chaired a series of five national security meetings to decide a course of action.” Al Jazeera reported that “the council decided on an operation to capture bin Laden.” “The goal of the raid was to capture bin Laden…”, a White House official assured the news service. But he “…did resist the assault force…” the official continued. And it was presumably that resistance which necessitated his death.

Then we learned that “the U.S. special forces team that hunted down bin Laden was under orders to kill the al Qaeda mastermind, not capture him.” “This was a kill operation”, a U.S. national security official told Reuters. “There was no try to capture bin Laden alive in Pakistan.”

And finally, in typical Obama White House fashion, counter-terrorism advisor John Brennan embraced both positions while asserting neither. After being pressed by reporters, Brennan said, “if we had the opportunity to take him alive, we would have done that…” “But other security officers [and I] expected bin Laden to fight back, which he did…” “We’re hoping to bury the rest of al Qaeda along with bin Laden.”

So which was it…kill or capture? And how did bin Laden “resist capture” and precipitate his own death if–in the most recent re-re-telling of the story–he had no weapon?

Obama knew he would face little media criticism regardless of the number of inconsistent reports of the evening’s adventures. So he used the media to pass off stories he thought acceptable to important “target audiences.” He wanted to create an image of fairness, compassion and “liberal” justice for the left and the Muslim world, so al Jazeera was told bin Laden would be taken alive.

For the vast majority of the American people, he wanted to appear an avenging angel of “frontier” justice, so other media representatives were told bin Laden was to be killed.

Then the story would be circulated that bin Laden died because he resisted the SEALS’ attempt to capture him. In short…”he brung it on himself!” Can’t blame Obama for that; after all. And most Americans would be happy he wound up dead in any event.

So the real objective of the bin Laden mission? Make Obama look good! But not even dozens of Navy SEALS could get it done!
